On 29 April 2005, the Fondazione’s doors opened for the first time and from the outset we have worked with great passion, integrity and method to carry on Mario’s memory. We continue at a great pace to bring his values to life, along with his art which perhaps now more ever is topical and necessary.
In recent years we have grown by accompanying not only the art of Mario and Marisa outside the walls of the Fondazione itself but also building up exhibition programmes year after year reflecting on its role, as a place of memory and conservation but also as a powerhouse for art.
The Mario Merz Prize for art and music has also been established since 2013. Now in its third edition, it is dedicated to mid-career artists with the aim of supporting them in their work.
Since 2017 we have embarked on a new exhibition program in Palermo that has led us to be partner of BAM Biennale Arcipelago Mediterraneo.
In the next few years we will see our activities expand also through the newly formed Swiss Mario & Marisa Merz Foundation.
To develop further we will need your support to spread the message we are promoting. This is why we are trying to give the Fondazione’s Friends & Patrons group a new shape and structure: it would be a real pleasure to be able to count on your collaboration.
The Friends & Patrons of the Fondazione Merz are thanked at the entrance of the exhibition space, mentioned in the imprint of all publications and in all communication materials as well as on the website. They are invited to all institutional events in the venues that host our initiatives, and also receive a copy of our publications.
