Marwa Arsanios wins the third edition of the Prize “ad occhi chiusi…”, based on collaboration between Artissima and Fondazione Merz

Marwa Arsanios is the winner of the third edition of the Prize “ad occhi chiusi…”,  assigned to international artists taking part in the fair whose work best reflects the activities of research of the foundation on young art in the Mediterranean.

The artist is represented by the gallery mor charpentier, Paris, Bogotà.

The prize has been assigned by an international jury composed of Lara Khaldi, artistic director, de Appel, Amsterdam; Beatrice Merz, president, Fondazione Merz, Torino; Agata Polizzi, curatorial coordinator, ZACentrale, Palermo; Francesco Stocchi, artistic director, MAXXI, Roma, with the following remarks: “We find the practice of Marwa Arsanios pertinent for both our present moment and the future in the Mediterranean. Her long-term projects involve different resilient communities. Her films show intentional ethical and aesthetic considerations and choices. Through her work we discover how forms of societal organization are integral to the aesthetics she produces. Her research on collective land ownership in the Mediterranean is important at this moment where land is Central in many struggles in the region”.

At its third iteration, the Prize “ad occhi chiusi…” offers the winning artist the possibility of taking part in a residency in Sicily. The results of the research conducted during the course of the residency are presented in the context of the programming of ZACentrale at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa in Palermo. The 2021 edition of the project saw the selection of Heba Y. Amin, presented by the Zilberman gallery of Istanbul and Berlin. In 2022 the prize was assigned with equal merit to the artists Alex Ayed, presented by Galleria ZERO… of Milano, and Nona Inescu, presented by the gallery SpazioA of Pistoia.
